40 Day RFC – Baked Chicken

Here is an easy recipe for those who just can’t wrap their mind around what Real Food is. Smile.

Baked Chicken with Vege’s.

This is incredibly delicious and super easy to make.

1 Whole Organic Chicken

Some Vege’s: I like potatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms.

Some homemade salsa, or store bought if it is raw.

Remember, pasteurization is a modern way to kill anything that could spoil. In the process it kills all the enzymes and most of the vitamins and turns real food into a manufactured ingestible. Salsa in the store is pasteurized, so make your own or find some that is raw.

Ro make raw salsa:

  • Dice a few organic tomatoes – I use 2-4 depending on their size.
  • Dice some green onions to flavor – 1 whole bunch, generally.
  • Dice some mild Jalepeno to flavor – 1/2-1, if it is mild. Less if it is hot.
  • Season with cumin if you don’t have an allergy to it.  Cumin wigs out my brain like gluten does, so I avoid it, but I love the flavor.
  • Mince some cilantro – 1 bunch
Mix all together and enjoy.  If you like it spicier, you can add red chile flakes, chili powder, or garlic or garlic powder . . . to taste.  Some people like to add salt. I find the tomatoes salty enough on their own.
So you take your Chicken and stuff some salsa under the skin of the breast and work it down under the skin on the legs and thighs. A tablespoon per leg and maybe two per breast and you are good to go.
Chop up the veges and place them in the bottom of a roasting pan. Place the Chicken
on top of the veges. If you are having company, you can roast it breast up for a pretty chicken. If no one is viewing it, roast it breast down for a moister meat. I also set the giblets in an obvious position in the pan, for those who like them.
I also put in 1/2 to 1 whole lemon (quartered) – in the cavity of the bird.
You can also drizzle raw organic olive oil http://www.barianni.com on the skin for a nice crisp and pretty brown skin.
I bake this 2 hours at 350 or 3-4 hours at 300, if I’m going to be out and about and want it ready when I come home.
This is incredibly tasty, satisfying and simple.  I sometimes serve a salad with this, but often have it just as it is. Everyone who has ever eaten this has wanted the recipe. When I tell them they are always amazed that it is so simple.
Next time I make this I will take a picture and post it here.
Real food rocks!

40 Day RFC Continued – Raw Butter

Well, I am officially a pioneer. This week I purchased raw cream, produced by Marilla, the cow, seen in the photo below, and churned it into fresh, homemade sweet cream butter. So delicious.

Marilla eats grass year round, has a lovely disposition, and her milk is heavenly. I purchased two quarts of Marilla made raw cream, and churned it into butter. I was surprised by how easy it was and elated with how delicious it is, and how positively my body responded to the milk, the cream and the butter. I also has a sense of accomplishment at making butter and called several friends to impress them with my new skill. Smile.

I used this little unit to “churn” the cream.  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Progressive-International-Manual-Food-Processor/11938491

Below is a photo of

  • the starting product (in the measuring cup),
  • the butter that it produced (the round yellow butter),
  • the buttermilk it produced (in the stemware glass)
  • and a store bought cube of salt free, sweet cream, pasteurized butter for comparison.

Notice how yellow the butter is that I hand churned. I did NOT add any coloring to it. This is the natural color. Pretty impressive.

Raw milk and raw cream are full of natural nutrition, which includes: minerals, vitamins, enzymes, proteins, acids, and more. Some consider it to be perfect food and it certainly falls in the category of Real Food.  Raw milk fasts have been proven to be beneficial for people, in varying degrees. Google raw milk fast and you will find a good deal of info on this.

So, raw milk, cream and butter are genuine/real food, and because I was blessed to find raw cream locally, I decided to adventure into the world of butter making and use only raw butter during this 40 day real food challenge. I have to say it is lovely, lovely, lovely. If you have never experienced raw milk, cream or butter, I highly recommend you give it a try. The trick is to find a source that comes from a grass fed cow. Their diet makes all the difference, as does their disposition. (You want to also make sure the farmer has a sanitary set up. I bought some raw milk from another source once and it was not a pleasant experience, so be alert in this.)

The truth is, if I have a choice, I will never go back to pasteurized milk, cheese, cream or butter. The difference is so extreme. Real dairy is delicious, satisfying and promotes health. These are all good reasons to choose raw, however, I would choose raw just for the flavor, even if there were no differences nutritionally. It is just superior in taste. Yuh uh ummmmmm!

Below is a close up of the raw butter and the pasteurized butter.

You can imagine how much more nutritious the one on the left is, just by looking at the deep rich yellow. I assume this is Vitamin A, but can’t say for sure.

I also love that in the process of making butter I also “made” buttermilk. The milk that separates from the butter fat is buttermilk and it is also delicious. You can see the buttermilk in the stemware glass in the top picture. Notice is it whiter than the cream in the measuring cup.  When the butter is separated out, it leaves a nice white buttermilk.

So what about low fat diets? Aren’t they supposed to be good for you? No!

Your body needs saturated fats and fat soluble vitamins. Without these you end up malnourished. Read Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon, or go to the Weston A Price Foundation website to read more. Fat is essential to health, and butter, lard, coconut oil/butter are all extremely healthy for you.

Margarine, Crisco and other artificial fats are extremely detrimental to health. They are artificial, manufactured injestibles which have no real food value, and your body cannot use them to create healthy cells.

Pasteurized milk, cream, cheese and butter are not much better. They cause mucous production, inflammation, immune distress, and general stress to the body. People who are “allergic to dairy” often find they are not allergic at all when they are able to try raw dairy. What they are allergic to is milk that has been profoundly altered and damaged through pasteurization and homogenization.

So! If you are able to find some real raw dairy, you might consider giving it a try during your 40 Day Real Food Challenge, and let us know how it goes. www.realmilk.com lists real milk sources by state.  I find it extremely satisfying and with the first few swigs I felt my body relax and become calm and centered. I highly recommend it.

It has been interesting to me to see there is a whole REAL food movement out there. I thought I was the one who coined the phrase “real food,” but others are using the same term. I’m very encouraged to see others choosing real food for life.

To Your Excellent Health!

40 Day Real Food Challenge

On October 1st I started a 40 Day Real Food Fast (TM). What is a Real Food Fast?(TM)

A Real Food Fast (TM) is a diet void of anything that falls in the category of manufactured ingestible. A manufactured ingestible is something that is sold as food but is so processed that it is no longer alive or nutritious, and causes loss of health, excess weight and disease. (Processed foods are foods that have been compromised by the addition of hormones, additives, preservatives, unnatural genetic material or other chemical or heat treatments that alter or destroy the natural healthy enzymes, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.)

A simple way to think of a Real Food Fast (TM) would be a diet based on foods available for all of history, prior to 1900. After that time, manufactured, processed, shipped products (made with a view to shelf life, rather than nutritional value) began to enter the market. Shortly after that Americans began to exhibit high levels of disease and the numbers have become epidemic in our lifetime. A study of food trends in the US clearly shows a connection between our unnatural modern diet and diseases like Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure and Stroke. Experts all agree that these diseases are preventable through diet and exercise.

What am I supposed to eat?

Recently I heard from a number of people who just have no idea what to eat if they don’t eat modern manufactured foods. When I decided to do a Real Foods Fast myself, I thought it would be a good opportunity to challenge others to do the same and give them some help with the question of “What am I supposed to eat?”

First, lets look at what you should not eat. Processed manufactured ingestibles include anything boxed or bagged, such as:

  • Cereal
  • Crackers
  • Chips
  • Cheese Puffs
  • Cake mixes
  • Cake frostings and decorations
  • Boxed pudding type deserts
  • Hamburger Helper type products
  • Boxed/Instant meals
  • Frozen Dinners
  • Frozen Pizza
  • Cooking Oils like: Soy, Corn, Canola, peanut
Other items include products that have additives, like “natural flavors or colors,” which are actually not natural, and any product that includes ingredients with long non food names like hydrolyzed, etc. Some of these include:
  • Salad Dressing
  • Canned soups
  • Boxed soups
  • Boxed dip mixes
  • Meal replacement bars
  • Packaged meats
  • Snacks
  • Instant Foods
  • Non-dairy creamers
Pasteurized foods or drinks, which includes store bought:
  • Bottled or Frozen Concentrate Fruit Juice Drinks
  • Milk
  • Cheese
  • Yogurts
  • Ice Cream
  • Kefir
Genetically modified foods:
  • Rapeseed – Resistance to certain pesticides and improved rapeseed cultivars to be free of erucic acid and glucosinolates. Gluconsinolates, which were found in rapeseed meal leftover from pressing, are toxic and had prevented the use of the meal in animal feed. In Canada, where “double-zero” rapeseed was developed, the crop was renamed “canola” (Canadian oil) to differentiate it from non-edible rapeseed.
  • Honey – Honey can be produced from GM crops. Some Canadian honey comes from bees collecting nectar from GM canola plants. This has shut down exports of Canadian honey to Europe. Make sure it is local and organic, if you can.
  • Cotton – Resistant to certain pesticides – considered a food because the oil can be consumed. The introduction of genetically engineered cotton plants has had an unexpectedly effect on Chinese agriculture. The so-called Bt cotton plants that produce a chemical that kills the cotton bollworm have not only reduced the incidence of the pest in cotton fields, but also in neighboring fields of corn, soybeans, and other crops.
  • Rice – Genetically modified to contain high amounts of Vitamin A. Rice containing human genes is to be grown in the US. Rather than end up on dinner plates, the rice will make human proteins useful for treating infant diarrhoea in the developing world.
  • Soybean – Genetically modified to be resistant to herbicides – Soy foods including, soy beverages, tofu, soy oil, soy flour, lecithin. Other products may include breads, pastries, snack foods, baked products, fried products, edible oil products and special purpose foods.
  • Sugar cane – Made resistant to certain pesticides. A large percentage of sweeteners used in processed food actually comes from corn, not sugar cane or beets. Genetically modified sugar cane is regarded so badly by consumers at the present time that it could not be marketed successfully.
  • Tomatoes – Made for a longer shelf life and to prevent a substance that causes tomatoes to rot and degrade.
  • Corn – Resistant to certain pesticides – Corn oil, flour, sugar or syrup. May include snack foods, baked goods, fried foods, edible oil products, confectionery, special purpose foods, and soft drinks.
  • Sweet corn – genetically modified to produces its own insecticide. Officials from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have said that  thousands of tonnes of genetically engineered sweetcorn have made their way into the human food supply chain, even though the produce has been approved only for use in animal feed. Recently Monsanto, a biotechnology food producer, said that about half of the USA’s sweetcorn acreage has been planted with genetically modified seed this year.
  • Canola – Canola oil. May include edible oil products, fried foods, and baked products, snack foods.
  • Potatoes – (Atlantic, Russett Burbank, Russet Norkatah, and Shepody) – May include snack foods, processed potato products and other processed foods containing potatoes.
  • Flax – More and more food products contain flax oil and seed because of their excellent nutritional properties. No genetically modified flax is currently grown. An herbicide-resistant GM flax was introduced in 2001, but was soon taken off the market because European importers refused to buy it.
  • Papaya – The first virus resistant papayas were commercially grown in Hawaii in 1999. Transgenic papayas now cover about one thousand hectares, or three quarters of the total Hawaiian papaya crop. Monsanto, donated technology to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, for developing a papaya resistant to the ringspot virus in India.
  • Squash – (yellow crookneck) – Some zucchini and yellow crookneck squash are also GM but they are not popular with farmers.
  • Red-hearted chicory – (radicchio) – Chicory (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum) is popular in some regions as a salad green, especially in France and Belgium. Scientists developed a genetically modified line of chicory containing a gene that makes it male sterile, simply facilitating the production of hybrid cultivars. Today there is no genetically modified chicory on the market.
  • Cotton seed oil – Cottonseed oil and linters. Products may include blended vegetable oils, fried foods, baked foods, snack foods, edible oil products, and smallgoods casings.
  • Tobacco -The company Vector has a GMO tobacco being sold under the brand of Quest® cigarettes in the U.S. It is engineered to produce low or no nicotine.
  • Meat – Meat and dairy products usually come from animals that have eaten GM feed.
  • Peas – Genetically modified (GM) peas created immune responses in mice, suggesting that they may also create serious allergic reactions in people. The peas had been inserted with a gene from kidney beans, which creates a protein that acts as a pesticide.
  • Vegetable Oil – Most generic vegetable oils and margarines used in restaurants and in processed foods in North America are made from soy, corn, canola, or cottonseed. Unless these oils specifically say “Non-GMO” or “Organic,” it is probably genetically modified.
  • Sugarbeets – May include any processed foods containing sugar.
  • Dairy Products – About 22 percent of cows in the U.S. are injected with recombinant (genetically modified) bovine growth hormone (rbGH).
  • Vitamins – Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is often made from corn, vitamin E is usually made from soy. Vitamins A, B2, B6, and B12 may be derived from GMOs as well as vitamin D and vitamin K may have “carriers” derived from GM corn sources, such as starch, glucose, and maltodextrin.
  • For a more extensive list:  http://opposingdigits.com/forums/about52.html
Artificial, Imitation, or altered sweeteners:
  • Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal, Canderel)
  • Sucralose (Splenda)
  • Neotame
  • Acesulfame K (Sunette, Sweet One, Sweet’n Safe-
  • Saccharin (Sweet‘N’Low, SugarTwin0
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS 55)
  • Cyclamate or sodium cyclamate (Banned is US but available overseas)
  • Potassium K

Non-foods in general:
  • Carbonated Drinks
  • Imitation foods or foods containing imitation flavorings
  • Crisco
  • Margarine
  • Artificial seasonings, or seasonings that have some natural ingredients but also have flavor enhancers and artificial flavors.
Feedlot meats fed un-natural foods, antibiotics, hormones, etc.
I would also add plain White Sugar to the list of things to not eat. Sugar is more addictive than Heroine and does more damage to the body than Heroine. Most people are addicted to Sugar and it is a health destroyer.
What Can You EAT???
In response to this post I had several people say, “What can I eat?” We are so accustomed to manufactured foods that we don’t even know how to eat real food anymore. We actually think we won’t like it. In reality, once you do a real food fast you realize that real food is very satisfying and delicious and, really, gourmet food. It makes you feel rich to eat this way, instead of eating cheap, artificial, manufactured ingestibles/food. Once you have eaten real food you will find it hard to go back to the fake stuff.  Keep reading for more help on what you can eat.
What you can eat:
  • Non GMO Foods http://nourishedkitchen.com/gmo-free-food/ Be careful when reading this list because some of these foods fall in the over processed manufactured ingestibles list, being produced with shelf life in mind, rather than nutrition; Barbara’s baked goods, for instance.
  • Vegetables – Preferably Heirloom varieties
  • Fruits  – Preferably Heirloom varieties
  • Nuts (natural and lightly processed: no colored pistachios, for instance)
  • Seeds
  • Legumes: Beans
  • Grains (unless allergic) Rice, Buckwheat, Quinoa, Wheat, Barley, etc. and the things you can make from them such as: Bread, Pasta, Pastries, but not the overly processed ones found in most grocery stores.
  • Eggs
  • Grass fed, free range type meats, free of hormones, pesticides, and gm foods.
  • Fish
  • Raw dairy
  • Fermented Foods and Drinks (Bubbies Pickles or Sauerkraut, other brands of KimChi, Kombucha, Wine, Raw Kefir, Raw Yoghurt)
  • Natural, cold processed, low oxygen processed Oils http://www.theoriginalhomozon.com (PEO’s)
  • Parent Essential Oils http://www.theoriginalhomozon.com
  • Organic, naturally processed Olive Oil  http://www.barianioliveoil.com/ http://www.oliveandgourmet.com/?gclid=CL2E76jNzasCFQgaQgod5mrFyw
  • Coffee
  • Cocoa
  • Real spices – including Raw or Sea type Salt
  • Real herbs
  • Lard
  • Sprouted Foods
  • Pop corn if you can find non gmo corn
  • Pesto
  • Pasta if made from non gmo grains and whole grains
  • Organic “canned” (meaning bottled in glass like Gramma used to do) foods.
  • Nut Butters (Note: Peanuts are not nuts, they are beans and some health experts believe Peanut Butter to be detrimental to the digestive tract. If you are going to do Peanut Butter, choose an organic, non-hydrogenated, non-flavored, non-sweetened version. Otherwise, choose almond or cashew or filbert, etc.)
Natural Sweeteners
  • Maple Syrup: Two tablespoons of maple syrup contain 33 percent of the daily value of the mineral manganese and 6 percent of zinc. Additionally, one serving contains trace amounts of copper, magnesium, iron, potassium and calcium.
  • Raw Honey: One tablespoon of honey provides trace amounts of minerals which include copper, iron and manganese, in addition to the vitamin riboflavin. According to the website Organic Facts, honey may also improve athletic performance and aid in weight loss. Additionally, honey may possess both antibacterial and antifungal properties.
  • Raw Molasses: A byproduct when sugar cane is processed into table sugar, molasses has a deep, raisin-like flavor. Blackstrap molasses is a particularly nutritious variety. One tablespoon provides 10 percent of the daily value of vitamin B-6, and over 10 percent of the daily values for copper, iron, magnesium and manganese. In addtion, over 5 percent of the daily values of potassium and the mineral selenium can be found in a single serving of molasses. For those who cannot use these simple, fiber-free carbohydrates at all . . . you just have to do without because there are no natural substitutes that were available before 1900,
that I know of. If you do, please let me know and I will post them here. It is very likely, however, that a short time on a Real Food Fast (TM) would enable you to once again enjoy foods with natural sugars in them.
If you have no idea where to start in eating Real Foods, try a mediterranean recipe book and adjust according to the lists above. Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon is a great place to start also.
We will discuss this further on our audio blog on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 1:00 pm Pacific. If you miss the live broadcast, you can listen to the archived show.

Joint and Disk Repair – Naturally

Joint and Disk Repair. Can it be done? You bet!

Here are a few products you can research that our clients have found useful in varying degrees. I’ve had clients scheduled for surgery who called and canceled their surgery because they were pain free in less than a week. Once again . . . will this happen for everyone? No. Nothing works first time, every time, for everyone, but this protocol has proven extremely effective for a multitude of people and is certainly worth giving a try.

  • 1 – Serrapeptase: This is a strong protease that digests scar tissue, which can contributing factor to pain in joints and disks. It is also a powerful anti-inflammatory and an effective natural pain reliever that does not have any of the dangerous side effects associated with NSAIDS. Serrapeptase has too many benefits to list them all here but one really nice benefit worth mentioning  is that it cleans our arteries. This means, while you are getting some pain relief, reducing inflammation and digesting scar tissue, you will be cleaning out your cardio-vascular system. Nice!
  • 2 – CM Powder: CM Powder is an inexpensive little product that has been laboratory proven to down regulate a hyper immune response. Since this is generally an issue in degenerative disk disease, CM Powder can be a real life-saver by down regulating this hyper response and allowing healing to occur. Studies show that arthritis that damages joints can be turned off with Cetyl Myristoleate. Clients often report immediate pain relief. This does not mean the issue has resolved. It does generally mean that the issue is being resolved and ovetime you can see real healing. Doctors recommend taking it three times a day for a full 6-8 weeks to be effective.
  • 3- ImmuCell: Immucell is a natural Collagen product that supports the restoration of lost disk or joint materials. By taking serrapeptase you stop/reduce inflammation, eliminate scar tissue and give temporary pain relief. By taking CM Powder you turn of the hyper immune response that is causing your immune system to damage your joints and disks. Then, by taking ImmuCell you give the body building blocks specifically for the damaged joints and disks.
  • 4 – Colostrum: Colostrum if an overall body restorer/repairer and superfood, but it specifically has Transforming Growth Factor in it which instructs the body to repair joints and disks. You can imagine how that might benefit the body. This, coupled with ImmuCell, can powerfully support the body in restoring joints and disks.

I had a nurse call me recently who had experienced a shoulder injury at work. She was unable to move her arm without excruciating pain. She happened to have some Colostrum on hand and thought she’d give it a try. She called me the next day to say it was like a miracle. She had taken 6 Tablespoons  in the AM and another 6 Tablespoons in the PM, and when she woke up the next day all the inflammation was gone, she had no pain and she had full range of motion. She was happily amazed. She continued to take a reduced amount of colostrum daily. Two weeks later she had her shoulder scanned and the doctor reported that he could see nothing wrong with her shoulder at all. She was jumping for joy and so was I.

This is just one of a multitude of great testimonies I have heard from people using one or all of these products.

Other items of interest are:

  • Near and Far Infrared. These can give remarkable pain relief and speed healing by 40%. I love my little Near Infra-red unit. It is so soothing and gives quick pain relief for stubbed toes as well as bruises or swollen painful joints and disks. I first learned about the ability of Infrared to heal disks from a testimony of a woman who used a 660 Infrared unit two minutes a day on her ruptured disks and with in eight months they were totally restored. That impressed me and I went on to study more on this subject and had a guy build hand-held unit for my Dad. He found it incredibly useful and so did I. I used it for minor issues that arose like a banged up knee from doing yard work and found it effective every time. I highly recommend doing some reading on this at http://www.excellentthings.com
  • Chi Machine: The Chi Machine is a wondrous thing. It was originally designed to oxygenate the body, which it does quite well. The positive results of increased oxygenation to the body are too vast and varied to list them all here so we will stick to the joint and disk subject. This little machine powerfully moves the lymphatic system, allowing healthy levels of oxygenation to the tissue and this simple action enables the body to engage in what is known as Speed Healing. All manner of physical maladies disappear when using the Chi Machine regulary, and the unique way it fishtails the body has proven to be very beneficial in aligning the spine and promoting healing, not just in the spine, but body-wide. I Chi daily and would not be without my machine as long as I have a choice. If you aren’t familiar with this powerful little machine, I highly recommend you drop by Excellent Things and read further. You want to also beware of copycats. I’ve tried numerous copycat machines and they are more jangling than I can say. I went looking for a better price and just could not find a copycat machine that could even remotely compare to the Original Chi Machine by HTE, so I am sticking with them.

You really can go from serious pain to pain-free and healed. Do yourself a favor and read up on each of these items and consider giving them a try. The trick is to do them consistently. A hit and miss program will not work.  Essentially you end up starting over repeatedly. With consistency your body can do some serious repairs. Ever heard of a torn meniscus being totally restored? Doctors say it can’t be done. Dr. Kleinsmith says it can because it happened to him. Drop by BlogTalkRadio with Donna Crow and listen to Dr. K’s broadcasts. You will be inspired.

If you have questions, feel free to call and if we can help we will. We cannot diagnose or prescribe, but we can tell you what we have learned and help you make an informed choice about your own health.

Can Crohn’s be healed?  I have a client who says, “Yes!”

Crohn’s, simply stated, is inflammation of the bowel, specifically the lower part of the small intestine called the ileum. The inflammation may involve all layers of tissue in the bowel. It is theorized that the cause is an overactive immune response, which means the immune system has begun to attack normal healthy cells, which causes a flood of white blood cells to the area, which causes inflammation.

The responding theory for healing is this. If you turn off this hyper-immune response the inflammation will leave and the body will then repair itself. Some people who have taken steps to turn off this hyper-immune response have indeed found that their symptoms are relieved. So, how did they turn it off?

One major player is CM Powder.  (cetyl myristoleate) This product has successfully been used by those with arthritis and other hyper-immune issues to down regulate the immune system, and it seems to work well with Crohn’s.

I just got a phone call from a guy I know who used CM Powder, colostrum and Serrapeptase together. He did this for a rather short time, maybe 4-6 weeks and noticed symptom relief immediately. Just yesterday he had a colonoscopy and was told that the could not see any Crohn’s anywhere in his digestive track.

Why Colostrum?  The digestive tract from the mouth down is lined with epithelial cells. Any attack on the lining of the digestive system is an attack on the integrity of these cells. Colostrum contains Epithelial Growth Factor, which strongly supports your body in growing new Epithelial cells. I’ve seen people with major food allergies related to various digestive maladies like: Leaky Gut Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Diverticulitus, as well as Crohn’s, get relief from those food allergies in as little as 3 days with the use of Colostrum.

Why Serrapeptase? Serrapeptase is well-known as a natural anti-inflammatory with none of the side effects associated with NSAIDS. It also is a strong protease capable of digesting scar tissue anywhere in the body. At the very least it can help with the inflammation of the lining of the gut. However, if there is also scar tissue in the area, Serrapeptase can eliminate that overtime so it’s a win-win product.

So, the rationale behind the protocol he chose was this:

  • Take CM Powder to turn off the hyper-immune response,
  • Take Serrapeptase to speedily reduce/eliminate the inflammation and/or any scar tissue,
  • Take Colostrum to speed the healing of any damaged areas of the lining.

The result for this man was a Crohn’s free intestine in less than 6 weeks. He was also taking prescription medication for this issue, but he had been on those for more than a year and though it gave minor and temporary relief for a few hours after ingesting, it didn’t actually fix the problem. After a short time on the natural protocol he joyfully had symptom relief and the colonoscopy showed that actual healing had occurred.

Will this work first time every time for everyone? No. I’ve never found anything that works first time, every time for everyone for any problem. And, with an issue like Crohn’s, there will generally be some sort of emotional trigger that started the whole thing. Quite often, without experiencing emotional healing/resolution of that issue it can be difficult to experience permanent healing. In that kind of situation something like EFT (http://www.fol-hs.com) can be extremely helpful.

That being said, the above products are certainly worth trying. They are all relatively inexpensive, all are supportive of overall body health and you might just find that you get relief, not only of the digestive symptoms, but of other body maladies addressed by these same products. Colostrum is powefully Anti-Aging and is the best all around super-healer on the planet, so while you are doing colostrum for your digestive system you might find other issues resolving.

Others have found adding a good probiotic like PB-8 to this protocol is helpful. Probiotics greatly support the health of the digestive tract and can be damaged by anti-biotic use, which is a common among those with Crohn’s. You can also re-seed your digestive track with good probiotics by eating fermented foods like Kim-Chi, and real sauerkraut like Bubblies makes. Bubbies also has real fermented pickles which are very delicious. You can also make Rejuvelac, a home-made probiotic drink.

If you try this protocol, let us know how your body responds.

Guests at the Hippocrates Health Centre on the Gold Coast of eastern Australia drink a glass of rejuvelac each day to improve their bowel flora. Rejuvelac may also be used as a starter for sourdough bread, and nut and seed cheese.

Makes 2 litres Rejuvelac.
1 cup of wheat grains, from a health food store.
2 litres of filtered water.
2 litre wide-mouthed glass jar.

1. Rinse wheat in water to remove dust and debris.

2. Add the wheat to the glass jar. Fill with filtered water and cover with gauze held securely in place with an elastic band. (It is important to prevent the entry of insects.) Soak for 12 hours.

3. Pour off the soak water and refill. Leave the jar on a kitchen bench out of direct sunlight. Give the jar a gentle twirl, but not a shake, every 12 hours. Once a light foam develops the Rejuvelac should be ready for use. It may take anywhere from 2-5 days to ferment the Rejuvelac depending on the ambient temperature. In hot weather where it may ferment too quickly (around 24 hours) it is possible for the Rejuvelac go putrid. Rejuvelac should have a pleasant yeasty smell with a lemon like flavour.

4. Once the Rejuvelac is ready then decant the liquid from the top leaving the sediment behind. Refridgerate. Refill the jar with water and ferment for another 24-36 hours to make a second culture. Decant the Rejuvelac, refrigerate – discard the wheat grains and the sediment.

1. Rinse wheat in water to remove dust and debris.

2. Soak the grain over filtered night. Pour off the water and rinse. Cover the jar with muslin cloth held securely in place to prevent entry of insects, then lay the jar on its side to drain, allowing the wheat to sprout for 1-3 days or until the roots are 1-3 mm long. Rinse periodically to prevent the grains from drying out, and to remove any potentially harmful organisms. In hot weather you may need to rinse the sprouting wheat 4-5 times a day.

3. Fill the jar with water and ferment the culture for 1-2 days or until it has gone milky with a layer of froth on the surface.

4. Decant the liquid and refrigerate.

1. It is possible for Rejuvelac to bad (as it is for sprouts and probably any fermented culture). You can generally tell if the rejuvelac is okay by the smell and taste. It should be acidic with a pH less than pH 3.9. It is good practice to observe, smell and taste the rejuvelac periodically to become accustomed to the changes that occur (as it is for any fermented culture). Rejuvelac should keep in the fridge for a week or more, and will gradually sweeten with time.

2. All bacteria and yeasts have an optimum incubation temperature. Refrigeration will inhibit the growth of some organisms but may give an opportunity for others to flourish. Hot weather or high temperatures, may encourage the rapid growth of pathogenic organisms before the beneficial organisms get started, in which case the culture will smell putrid. If your Rejuvelac culture goes off, discard it, sterilise the jar and wait for cooler weather. In hot weather, it is possible that a slight acidulation of the water with a little lemon juice at the start of the fermentation, may provide an environment less suited to pathogenic organisms.

Natural Options for Diabetes

The following are some simple yet powerful products that others have used to see their blood sugar levels return to normal.

Chi Machine

Chi MachineThis is a little passive exercise machine that has proven to help people restore their blood sugar levels in as little as 2 weeks. You simply lie down, put your ankles in the ankle rests and turn the unit on. It briskly moves your ankles from side to side, causing a mild fishtailing of the entire body. This simple activity powerfully moves the lymphatic system and promotes a phenomenal amount of healing in the body. The testimonies that people share are quite remarkable. I personally will never be without mine, if I have a choice. For those disinclined to exercise, this machine is profound. 15 minutes on this is equal to a 90-minute brisk walk. Colostrum is hands down the best overall body healer known to man and it is wonderful for those challenged by Diabetes. Here is a quote from:

Components in Colostrum Balance Blood Sugar Levels and Reduce Insulin Requirements

by Thomas E. Stone ND, CNHP

Colostrum has also been shown to balance blood sugar levels. This is due, at least in part, to a growth factor known as IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor). A 1990 publication in “Diabetes,” suggested that colostrum supplementation would be a very beneficial treatment for diabetes, based on the fact that IGF-1, can stimulate glucose utilization. Researchers found that IGF-1 levels were lower in diabetic patients than in healthy individuals. After administering IGF-1 to patients, doctors noticed a two-fold increase in glucose transport to the muscles, potentially treating hyperglycemia and the dependence on insulin.

As a naturopathic physician, I was using colostrum 20 years ago. Back then, I could get it from organic farmers in the Midwest – and I used it as a liquid. However, when I moved my practice, I was no longer able to obtain it from the local farmers and so I investigated numerous forms of dried colostrum on the market. None of them even came close to the track record I had established with true colostrum, so I eliminated it from my practice for a number of years. Finally, several years ago, I discovered the Immune-Tree brand. Just tasting and feeling it, I knew I had found the real thing. And sure enough, when I gave this to my patients, they experienced the benefits I knew they could. So, once again, colostrum is an integral part of my practice.

For diabetic patients, colostrum is unbeatable. Within months, every one of my patients have either greatly reduced their levels of insulin or they have eliminated it altogether. That’s quite a track record, but it’s true.

Magnesium is essential for those with Diabetes. Magnesium is essential for all of us and according to experts 7 our of 10 people in the US are low in magnesium due to the fact that our soil is so low in magnesium.  We just don’t get it in our diet. Magnesium is involved in more than 300 biological processes and is essential for regulation of the heart and our blood sugar levels.  Here is a quote from: Jerry L. Nadler, MD

The link between diabetes mellitus and magnesium deficiency is well known. A growing body of evidence suggests that magnesium plays a pivotal role in reducing cardiovascular risks and may be involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes itself. While the benefits of oral magnesium supplementation on glycemic control have yet to be demonstrated in patients, magnesium supplementation has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity. Based on current knowledge, clinicians have good reason to believe that magnesium repletion may play a role in delaying type 2 diabetes onset and potentially in warding off its devastating complications — cardiovascular disease, retinopathy, and nephropathy.

And another quote:

Reprint: Online PR News – 28-March-2011 –Orange, CA – March 26, 2011 — A new study from Brazil, scrutinized magnesium intake and blood levels in 51 type 2 diabetes patients. Blood sugar (glucose) tests were done which measure the levels of glucose in the patient’s blood. One such test is the “fasting blood sugar test” which measures blood glucose after you have not eaten for at least 8 hours.

Usually, blood glucose levels increase a bit after eating. This increase causes the pancreas to release insulin so that blood glucose levels do not get too high. Blood glucose levels that remain high over time can damage eyes, kidneys, nerves, and blood vessels.

The study found that those patients with lower fasting and after-meal blood glucose levels had higher blood magnesium levels while those patients with higher fasting glucose levels had lower blood magnesium levels and higher urine levels of magnesium. A full 82% of the diabetics studied showed that magnesium intake was insufficient with the lowest levels found in those with kidney complications. About 62% of the patients had low blood levels of magnesium.

The researchers noted that because magnesium is so vital to energy supply and utilization in the body, they were not surprised to find that lower levels of magnesium in the blood lead to metabolic malfunctions such as diabetes. They also concluded that the impaired kidney function connected with diabetes mellitus might explain the higher levels of magnesium in the urine, which combined with insufficient magnesium intake, caused the high blood sugar levels.

These results correlate with the findings of Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, author of the popular book on the subject called “The Magnesium Miracle”, and Medical Director of the Nutritional Magnesium Association. http://www.nutritionalmagnesium.org

Magnesium isn’t just an option for those with Diabetes it is a must. The trick is to get Magnesium the is well used by the body. For that, Orotates are top of the line. http://www.excellentthings.com

Fulvic Acid Minerals

Fulvic Acid Minerals are also extremely helpful for Diabetics in a unique way.

Here is one quote:

Scientists found that fulvic acids show significant success in preventing and combating free radical damage to pancreatic islet B cells, which is the widely accepted cause for diabetes mellitus. What they discovered was that the Fulvic acid preparation significantly increases superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Their clinical studies show that fulvic acids diminish the development and progression of diabetes, and assisted in the treatment.

In addition to be a great help with restoring the BSCS, fulvic acid minerals a serious little super healers. To read up on their astounding capabilities and effects go here to find four excellent reports and find the best fulvics available.

Parent Essential Oils

Parent Essential Oils are simply old fashioned oils, processed in a low heat, low oxygen environment that are fresh and alive and essential to good health. Your cells use these types of oils to create windows that nutrients and oxygen flow through. Without these natural, unprocessed oils the body breaks down in a multitude of ways. This is one of the most basic reasons we have Cancer, Diabetes and other preventable illness in epidemic levels in the US. Our diets are filled with dangerous oils like canola, and all the oils you generally find at the grocery store.  The right oils are essential for a properly functioning BSCS. This, like, magnesium, is not an option, it is a necessity.

There are a number of ways to lower blood sugar in the body. For instance, you can use herbs that naturally lower blood sugar. One such herb is Goldenseal. Goldenseal is a natural form of insulin. It is also a natural anti-biotic and should only be taken for a short time, perhaps two weeks. Taking it longer than that would lead to mild toxicity. You can see the limitations of trying to control your blood sugar levels with this type of herb.

In addition, you have to ask yourself, “Do I just want to treat my blood sugar levels with herbs, similar to how a prescription medication would, or do I want to fix the system that regulates my blood sugar so that my levels stay in a healthy range all on their own?”  I’m thinking the wise choice is to do the latter.  The products mentioned above all help the body move in that direction.

And, with the understanding that some people would rather have Diabetes than to have to change their diet or lifestyle, we offer these options for your study.

Your Excellent Health does not guarantee these will work for anyone. Everyone’s body responds differently to individual ingredients, but the below products are formulated based on research regarding successful use of nutrients to stabilize blood sugar levels. Consult your health care professional when making choices about your personal protocol. If you are on pharmaceutical medications: contact your pharmacist or your MD about possible contra-indications.

The truth is that anything healthy will positively affect your blood sugar levels. This includes the food you eat. Your diet is either giving you Diabetes or it is curing/preventing it. When you give the body what it was designed to run on it runs well. When you don’t it doesn’t. It is very simple. Getting set free from food addiction, however, isn’t always simple, so supplements can be helpful while you attempt to make the transition.

Let the specter of blindness, kidney failure and amputation help to motivate you. You might find some photos of those who have suffered this fate to help you make the right choices. This is serious stuff. Neuropathy, wounds that won’t heal, and general malaise are not how you want to live your life.

What works for one person doesn’t always work for another, so we try to give numerous options for our readers. Check out the two listed below.

Diabetes mellitus responsible for enormous world economic burden

A December supplement to the British Diabetic Association journal, Diabetic Medicine, warned that the prevalence of diabetes worldwide is expected to nearly double in the next twelve years. Dr. Paul Zimmet and colleagues for the International Diabetes Institute and the World Health Organization report that diabetes mellitus “appears to be epidemic in many regions of the world” and will double and could even triple by the year 2010. (It has, just as they predicted)
